Introduction
This guide is an
introduction to Cisco routers. This is not meant to be comprehensive, but an
introduction the basics of configuring, maintaining and for deeper information,
look into the CCNA course. This guide assumes the use of a Cisco 877 / 877w
router.
A Cisco router uses the
IOS (Internetwork Operating System) as its CLI operating system. The IOS is
used to configure and troubleshoot the router. Web based management (called the
SDM) can be used, but is not covered in this document.
It is best to have a reasonable
understanding of networking, and especially how IPv4 addressing works. For more
information refer to the Network Fundamentals book from CCNA (Dye, McDonald,
& Rufi, 2009).
